A couple weeks back on the blog we told you some Top Tips When Moving, but it’s essential to get things rolling before moving day or you might forget something important. Take a look at these tips below, and look to have these organised 3 to 4 weeks before you move.
- Settle outstanding bills
Having bills still outstanding after you’ve moved house can cause headaches, especially if the companies billing you don’t know that you’ve moved. Make sure to have everything paid for and up to date before you leave, and avoid a nasty surprise down the road!
- Back up important information on any computers you own
The bumpy ride involved in moving might cause problems to the hard drive of your laptop or PC, so if there’s anything important you want to hold on to, burn an extra copy onto CD or DVD. External hard drives are now available at pretty affordable prices, which could allow you to back up your entire hard drive before the move.
- Notify your landlord of the date you’re planning to leave
If you’re renting your current property, you’ll have to call your landlord and let them know the date you’ll be leaving. This would also be a good time to plan a date for a final inspection, so you can get your bond back.
- Arrange when to pick up your boxes from eMOVING
As you probably already know, eMOVING plastic boxes are a reliable, eco-friendly alternative to cardboard boxes. Organise with us beforehand when you’d like to have the boxes to start packing, and how long you’ll need them for. You can order online right now by clicking here.
- Get your family’s school and medical records
While you might think everything is stored online these days, it’s essential that you pick up records and certificates that your family’s school or doctor might be holding onto. When you get to your new place, take these along to the appropriate places, and make the moving process that little bit smoother.
- Get your pet’s medical records
You should also pick up the information of any pets you have at your local veterinarian. It’ll be important to have this information at hand when your pets run into trouble at their new home (and don’t forget to take them with you!)
- Get rid of what you don’t need
Take a look through your house and find the things that aren’t worth packing, and throw them out! For the things that still have value, you can give these to your neighbours or family, or pass them along to charity.
Follow these tips, and moving house will be a stress-free experience.
